Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity that many people eagerly look forward to. However, naturally everything that shines must come with its own obstacles. At Echos Education, we understand the stress and uncertainty that this sudden transition can create for students. Studying in a foreign language while trying to adapt to a foreign education system requires great patience and resilience. Moreover, settling into a new country can make you question your decision to move in the first place. From experiencing culture shock to having to navigate an entirely new academic environment, students can feel lonely and isolated. Knowing this, Echos offers Life Mentoring services designed to avoid such harsh transitions and help our students organise their new lives more comfortably.
Our Life Mentoring services aim to help students adapt more quickly to their academic and social lives abroad. Mentors are assigned to students in the first week of their arrival in the UK, and regular sessions are held through face-to-face or online meetings at our London office. These sessions are shaped around introducing students to the many daily necessities of living in the UK. Some of these needs may include: understanding transport, obtaining travel cards, dietary and other food-related questions and recommendations, collecting residence permits (BRP), registering with their local GP, choosing advantageous banks for transferring money from abroad, and opening UK bank accounts.
Another aspect of settling into the UK is the daily responsibilities that students renting accommodation may face. For example, understanding council tax systems and how to make payments, taking over utilities such as electricity, water and heating, or calling a technician for technical issues that may arise over time. With the help of assigned mentors, students will be introduced to these systems and registration processes will be fully supported by our expert team.
Our Life Mentoring service acts as a lifeline, enabling students to adapt to their lives abroad with confidence and ease. By guiding students through the challenges they face, we enable them to feel more comfortable in their new lives, become more independent, and focus on excelling in their studies. With Echos Life Mentoring, students gain an invaluable life experience abroad while enjoying the comfort of knowing they are not alone on this journey. At Echos Education, we are proud and excited to support our students and watch them become the bright minds we know they are.
